can you recommend a good quality HIGH PROTEIN dog food?

i have an English Bulldog that is 10 years old.
to explain a little bit. he was put on prednisone for over 2 months to cure a yeast infection in his ears that the vets could not get a handle on. he is experiencing muscle loss in his legs due to the steroid. he is being weened off of the med. i was told a higher protein food mey help build his muscles back to where they were.

I have to plead being a little lost, why in the world would you want to feed a 10 year old dog a high protean diet? That is backward of what you should do. I won’t recommend a high protean food because I would NEVER put a 10 year dog on anything hotter than about 20% protean, and probably lower percentage than that.

Even with the steroid issue, I still would not go above 24-26% with that old a dog. You are better off putting that muscle mass back on the dog slowly anyway.

Orijen and Innova EVO some of the highest quality high protein foods. A word of warning: if your dog is not currently eating a food this high in protein, the change may be difficult. Some dogs can’t tolerate such high protein levels, and you may see some digestive problems. If you are changing, change very slowly.

What percentage protien are you looking for? The grainless kibbles are higher in protien-some as high as 42%. If your dog is less than 18 months old I would not suggest a kibble with more than 28% protien.

What breed of dog are you looking for a high protein diet for? I would never answer a question like this if I did not know the breed of dog first.

bil-jac mix it w/ a hard dry food. but first check w/ vet that your dog needs this "high" protein diet..

We have used Canidae dog food available at good pet stores. It is a dry kibble. It is one of the only dog foods not part of the recall a while ago. Our 1 yr old golden retriever is healthy and energetic. Her coat glistens like new fallen snow! ( she is a blonde color). Her fur is very soft and shiny. She has never had an ear infection. We highly recommend it. Good Luck!

I would recommend Wellness Core or Timberwolf Organic Food which is made to resemble a wolf’s diet in the wild and has high levels of animal meat, high levels of kelp and other seaweeds, vegetables, fruits, whole grains, herbs, seeds and nuts, taurine, sulfur, probiotics, high levels of essential fatty acids, and in general only the highest quality ingredients. You could also try a raw food diet, which is very rich in protein. Only Natural Pet Store sells both the above brands and also some raw food mixtures you can check out. You don’t want really high protein for dogs… I suggest talking with your vet to find a food that is bets for your dog..and if you want a raw food diet they will have the info you need for that as well or be bale to direct you to someone who can help.

Look at this web site. All the foods in the 6 star range are very high protein and grain free.

*** The grain free diet contain no grain and more meat, so the protein levels are much higher.

We use Timberwolf and love it! They do make several varieties with one being high protein. We couldn’t find it locally so I went directly to their website. Shipping is free after a certain dollar amount and I get the food FAST!

i would not go with evo. but what food are you feeding now and what kind of dog do you have. if i where you i would switch the do to nutro ultra mix. i have a american pit bull terrier and he is still pup but he is 50punds now a 20 pound bad of nutro ultra mix last month cause that food does not have filler so they diggest most of there food wich mean less poop and healthy skin coat . they also have senior meal that is great. it made friend 10 year old border collie seem like a puppy again he got better coat he lost weight look very healthy. the vet said that could not believe how good he looked. now my pit bull i showed the people that gave him to me and they could not believe how healthy and big her has gotten. any question just message me
